In anticipation of positive feedback we have been scheduling our steel orders for the past 12 months to enable a phased switchover to the new material with full integration of Magnelis® coated steel from January 2024. According to the manufacturers comparative data, Magnelis® offers superior protection compared to equivalent products, thanks to its advanced coating and self-healing properties.

Magnelis® benefits:

  1. Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium Coating: Magnelis is steel coated with a special zinc, aluminium, and magnesium alloy. This combination provides enhanced corrosion resistance compared to traditional zinc or galvanized coatings.
  2. Self-Healing Properties: Magnelis has self-healing properties, which means that if the coating is scratched or damaged, the zinc in the coating can protect exposed steel by forming a protective layer. This helps prevent the spread of corrosion and prolongs the life of the material.
  3. Longer Lifespan: Due to its superior corrosion resistance, Magnelis-coated steel is known for having a longer lifespan (up to 3 times longer than standard galvanised steel) when exposed to harsh environments, making it a preferred choice in industries like construction, automotive, and renewable energy.
  4. Reduced Maintenance: The self-healing properties and enhanced corrosion resistance of Magnelis can lead to lower maintenance costs over time, as there’s less need for repairs or recoating.
  5. Environmentally Friendly: Uses less Zinc than traditional galvanised steel, longer lasting, less maintenance and is 100% recyclable.
  6. Technical approvals: Germany: German Institute for Building Technology DIBt Z- 30.11-51 for Magnelis in contact with soil and water, France: ETPM for Magnelis by CSTB, Sweden: Technical Approval no SC0559-13, UK: Steel Construction Institute (SCI) concluded that the coating was appropriate for use when specified in construction.
